Trivia Night and Learning in 3D

The Hixson Trivia Night is just around the corner. We have been asked to put together a themed prize basket for the silent auction at the Trivia Night. Our theme this year is "A Family Night In". If you would like to donate any items for our basket (movies, games, Redbox gift cards, popcorn, etc) we would really appreciate it. We will include it all in our basket. Trivia Night is next weekend so we'll be putting the finishing touches on our basket late this coming week. Thanks in advance.

Our grant, Learning in 3D, is up on donorschoose.org. Here is the link: Learning in 3D  We appreciate any help in reaching our goal of expanding the kids' learning through technology. We have a lot of projects ready to go if we're able to get our grant funded. If you use the doubling code SPARK, the donation will be doubled. Thanks again in advance and please share on your social media outlets.

Learning in 3D - Our DonorsChoose.org Grant Opportunity

As you know, we are always looking for opportunities to increase the technology on team to enhance the kids' learning experience. Over the years, we've added 28 Chromebooks and 10 Kindles to our classroom mix (before our school went 1:1 with laptops). This time, we are trying to get a 3D Printer so that we can work on some project opportunities this semester, both within our team setting and with other schools in the area. Truly, we are trying to extend learning to the outside world as much as possible.

Because we believe so strongly in our mission, Melissa and I have donated to the project. We are putting this out there so that if any of our amazing Harmony Team parents would like to donate, or pass the information on to others who might want to donate, it would be easy to do. Here is the information, including the link to the project. We hope that we can make this opportunity available to kids as soon as possible. One important note: any donation up to $100.00 will be doubled if, during checkout, you use the code SPARK in the promo code space. We thank you in advance for your help.

Here is the info:

Give to our classroom by February 4, 2015 and your donation will be doubled thanks to DonorsChoose.org. Just enter the code SPARK on the payment page and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $100).

Monday Memo: Printers, Trivia and the Idea Showcase

Because of the work we are doing with 20% Time and Project Based Learning, we are submitting a grant to get a 3D Printer on team. We have done some research on which would suit our needs while still being cost-conscious. We will be putting a grant on donorschoose.org later this week for a 3D Printer. We have lined up some of the donations already but there will be a little ways to go to reach our goal. For the first week, we receive a doubling code so that all money (up to 100.00 per donation) can be doubled (50.00 becomes 100.00 because of the doubling code). We ask for your help in reaching our goal.

The 3D Printer will be used for making prototypes of kids' classroom projects and creating original artifacts for kids' 20% Time projects. We are also going to participate in a multi-district art project (narrative cube art created on the 3D printer) that will be on display somewhere in St. Louis this summer. On Team Harmony, we are all about creating.

As we may have indicated earlier this year, many students cannot get their fill of gaming. It is beginning to impact their grades. If you look at your kiddos' grades, you'll see who has not been turning in their work. There are many students who have not had the best start to second semester. We are making a push to get all missing assignments in by Friday. We would like to ask you to encourage your kiddos to use the laptops for good and not evil.

The 20% Time Idea Showcase will be on the morning of February 4. The showcase will be in the cafeteria from 8:45-10:15. We hope that many of you can come by to see some of the amazing work the kids have done on their projects so far.

Monday Memo - A Little Early

On Wednesday, February 4, we will have the 20% Time Idea Showcase in the Hixson cafeteria from 8:45-10:15 am. The event is open to students, teachers, district staff and community members. This is a great opportunity to see all of the 20% Time projects that the kids are doing and maybe find a student to mentor. The Idea Showcase is one of the highlight days of our 20% Time journey. We would love to see many of you there.

First grades for second semester are being entered into the grade books over the weekend. Please check the portal frequently.
